Millennials And Their Content Trends

While the growth of internet and technology continues exponentially, the amount of content currently shared by millennials is already incredible. According to an AOL research, a whopping 84% of millennials had shared online articles/videos/links within the past month. 1 in 3 of those shared content every day or almost every day.

So what sort of content to millennials tends to share? Well the top format is visual content. This includes videos, articles and lists – although men and women do indeed differ on which visuals they share the post. About half of millennials also create their own headlines in order to catch the attention of their peers. The most shared topics are humor and entertainment.

Why do millennials share these things? Well the most popular reason is to make their peers smile. Millennials tend to share content that they believe will make their friends happy. Other reasons are to show peers something they’d like or to inform them of something they’d like to know. Among the top ways to share are Facebook, email, talking on the phone, and twitter.

According to our last blog, millennial spending is on the rise. How can marketers use their content sharing habits to their advantage? Based on the trends, advertisements that are funny, entertaining, and visual will be a good starting point. Additionally creative campaigns that allow for easy sharing functionality makes it easier to spread the messaging to a larger audience than the original placement.
