Online marketing is an important channel for businesses to use to spread their message to their consumers. 2016 statistics predict that digital advertisement spending will surpass TV advertisement spending, which is an important milestone that has been on the horizon for years. In order to remain on top, businesses must be aware and follow the latest trends within online marketing.

Video advertisements are on the rise.

Video used to be a secondary form of advertisement, but now it has evolved into a primary form of advertisement due to the emphasis on mobile. Most people, especially college students, are constantly scrolling through their newsfeed looking at pictures and video. . According to Syndacast, 55% of mobile data usage is spent watching videos. In just 30 seconds, a video advertisement can explain your brand’s purpose and product in an entertaining and sharable way. Video ads are one of the largest online trends for 2016, and are more accessible than ever.

Mobile > desktop
2015 was a strong year for mobile advertising, with Google announcing that mobile traffic out beat desktop traffic in 10 different countries and mostly all companies releasing updates to phase out sites not adapted for mobile use. Consumers use their smartphones constantly and have access to the Internet and email at all times. Syndacast calculated that 60% of global mobile consumers use their smartphones as a primary source for the Internet. It is like walking around with a portable desktop everywhere – which means that marketing is no longer limited to time or place.

More paid advertisements
